One of the main objectives within the Scientific Cooperation Program with Ibero-America 1988-1992, an agreement signed in 1989 by the History and Documentation Unit of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid, C. S. I. C. and the Institute of Ecology and Systematics, Academy of Sciences of Cuba, has been to make known the Cuban material existing in the herbarium of the Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid (MA). Since 1988, the study of these collections has been carried out and the manuscripts that exist about them in the archive of the Royal Botanical Garden have been published, unpublished for almost two centuries until 1990.
