At the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, cultural functions were carried out by the Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education, and the weight of cultural management fell on private institutions and voluntary associations. After January 1, 1959, Cuban society experienced profound changes in all its structures. At that time, the creation of emblematic cultural institutions for the country's culture took place, such as the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), founded 83 days after the triumph of the Revolution, and the House of the Americas, created in April 1959. As a milestone in a long process of institutionalization of culture, in November 1976 the Ministry of Culture was created. Until then, the main editions created in this area were produced by the “Publications of the Ministry of Education-Directorate of Culture” label.
