Oficina del Programa Martiano

The José Martí Program Office was created in 1997 as the institution for the articulation of the National Program for the Study and Promotion of José Martí Thought, to coordinate and promote the research, dissemination and preservation of the life, work and thought of José Martí. The reasons behind the creation of the Office are still fully valid. As stated in the agreement of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba on April 9, 1997: “the political, cultural and ethical conceptions of José Martí acquire an increasing national and international interest and relevance. And given the challenges that the country faces and in order to continue strengthening our national identity, it is necessary to promote the legacy and morality of the Apostle in a broader and more systematic way, and link it more rigorously to the debate of ideas in the contemporary world. All of this requires coordinated institutional and social efforts.”
