The Fernando Ortiz Foundation, created on September 21, 1995, is a Cuban cultural institution of a public and civil nature, non-governmental, with its own legal personality and patrimony and non-profit purposes, which is governed by the Civil Code of Cuba and its own statutes. Its main purposes are the study and dissemination of the life and work of the Cuban scholar Fernando Ortiz, as well as the development of scientific research on Cuban cultural identity.
