José de la Luz y Caballero

A brilliant disciple of Felix Varela, Luz is an outstanding thinker and educator who emerged from the Cuban philosophical controversy, a debate carried out between 1838 and 1840, as the most notable, acute and profound Cuban philosopher and theoretician. He is currently considered one of the three leading personalities in the history of ideas in Cuba, along with José Antonio Saco and Francisco de Arango y Parreño.
