Pedro José Guiteras

Notable Cuban historian and essayist, author of various works, including his "History of the island of Cuba" (New York, 1865-1866), which he was forced to publish during his exile in the United States, where he had lived since years ago due to his differences with the Spanish colonial government in Cuba, which landed him in prison on two occasions. About him Fernando Ortiz expressed: "he took the historical studies of Cuba beyond the simple external chronicle of often inconsequential events, for the first time in Cuban historiography, the development of our people was closely linked with the rest of world life" .
