Enrique José Varona

Cuban politician, teacher, essayist and journalist, vice president of the neocolonial Republic of Cuba between 1913 and 1917. Doctor of Philosophy and Letters, he was one of the most influential intellectuals on the island at the end of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. He had a notable influence on Cuban education after the end of Spanish domination on the Island. He was a university professor and a notable essayist and philosopher. He became an icon of the Cuban youth of the 1930s due to his incorruptibility and principles.
