Blanche Zacharie de Baralt

A close friend of José Martí, she wrote her famous book “The Martí that I knew” dedicated to the apostle in 1945, moving the hearts of all Cubans. She enrolled at the University of Havana and was the first woman to graduate in Philosophy and Letters from that high educational center. She completed her last degree exercise on November 20, 1902 with the highest qualifications. She published important articles as well as a small cookbook of Cuban cuisine titled "Cuban Cookery", where she reveals her deep knowledge of Creole cuisine and her love for her “adopted homeland,” the homeland “by the heart.”
