Commission created to organize local and national commemorations for the Centennial of José Martí's First Speech in Cuba, delivered on January 21, 1879, in the halls of the Artistic and Literary Lyceum of Guanabacoa, Havana, as part of funeral honors to the poet and patriot Alfredo Torroella and Romaguera.
