Jorge Mañach Robato

Eminent Cuban intellectual and politician. Doctor in Philosophy and Letters. He published important books and hundreds of articles in main Cuban newspapers and magazines. He participated in the Thirteen Protest against the government of Alfredo Zayas and belonged to the "Grupo Minorista". He has a member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters, of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language and of the Academy of History of Cuba. He was the founder and ideologist of the ABC, organization from which he opposed the dictatorship of Gerardo Machado (1925-1933) and which was dissolved in 1947. During the last months of the constitutional government of Fulgencio Batista he was Minister of State. In 1952 he spoke out against Batista's coup d'état and in 1957 he left the country to settle in Spain.
