Cuba has a long history in statistics. However, since the beginning of the sixties, the work of statistics and its organization have been improved, strengthened and redesigned. From 1961 to date, the most important institutions of official statistics have been the following: from 1961 to 1976: The Central Directorate of Statistics, which belonged to the Central Planning Board; From 1977 to 1994: The State Statistics Committee, which acted as an independent ministry; from 1995 to 2011: The National Statistics Office, which is an institution attached to the Ministry of Economy and Planning; from 2011 to the present: The National Statistics and Information Office.
